+We have worked with hundreds of doctoral students in our careers. For almost all of the doctoral students with whom we have worked, the idea of conducting a research investigation and writing a doctoral dissertation is terrifying, in some cases, and only mild anxiety, in other instances. In this book, we provide a practical and pragmatic approach to the entire dissertation process, from coming up with a researchable idea for the dissertation proposal through defending the proposal, conducting the research study, and finally, writing a completed doctoral dissertation and successfully defending it. The components of the dissertation proposal and of the dissertation itself are discussed with respect to formal and scholarly writing and being compliant with the 7th edition of the American Psychological Association Publication Manual (2019). Along with our discussion of these components, we provide practical and detailed suggestions, as well as exemplars for each of the major sections of Chapter I. Addressed in this book are traditional quantitative dissertations, traditional qualitative dissertations, along with the less traditional but becoming increasingly popular, the journal-ready dissertation.
